Maison Monolithique
Villa D - Al Ouidane, Morocco by Studio kO

This monolithic villa set in the awe-inspiring landscape of Al Ouidane, Morocco is designed by French architecture duo Studio KO with a refreshing modernist aesthetic imbued with subtle references to history and culture. The texture of the building’s surfaces — materials rooted in rural architecture such as unpolished stone and dry earth — speak louder than statement furniture or décor.

Cabin Typology
Cozy retreat in the Catskills, Upstate New York by Paris-based Corpus Studio

This cozy retreat in the Catskills, Upstate New York brings the look and feel of a tiny nature cabin into an elegant, contemporary home. Designed by Paris-based Corpus Studio with materials and textures chosen for the finishes and furniture that intentionally juxtapose the old against the new; the rough against the smooth; the comfortable against the austere.

The house exemplifies local artisan work, often hand-crafted with great care and attention to detail.

Returning to the principle cabin typology, the central and quintessential gathering spot of this cabin is the fireplace; it is designed as a glorified pit, featuring a ceramic suspended smoke canopy, resembling the buttressed trunk of a great forest tree.

Verdure
NORM_ARCHITECTS_K_HOUSE.jpg

Located in Sri Lanka, K House is a secluded beach front villa surrounded by lush greenery and breath-taking views designed by Copenhagen-based Norm Architects. This soft, minimal space creates the backdrop for New York-based illustrator Sara Singh's strikingly fluid watercolor and ink drawings of tropical verdure.

Back in my hometown Stockholm visting Nationalmuseum, Sweden’s largest museum for Art and Design, (established in 1866) – newly re-opened after five years of extensive renovation and modernization. The institution commissioned five Swedish designers to work with local manufacturers to furnish the new interior spaces, as part of its initiative to promote Nordic design, called NM& – En Ny Samling/A New Collection.

Enjoy the tour!
