This off-grid house rests in the vast and remote seemingly endless desert landscape of Southern Arizona. Designed by studio D U S T with borrowed cues from vernacular desert architecture with walls made of volcanic residue – known as "lava-crete".
New York-based textile artist Kiva Motnyk of Thompson Street Studio creates experimental textiles and intricate patchworks. The stunning one-of-a-kind pieces in this story are made using natural dying and vintage fabrics – reinventing the tradition of the American quilt.
